I suspected this had been mistranslated. It isn't (I'm fluent in German). She didn't make a case for "collateral damage" being acceptable in the pursuit of "military objectives". She literally stated that what Germany stands for is the wilful slaughter of civilians. This is dark.

This is the normalisation of the US War-On-Terror doctrine where the "unlawful combatant" concept provides for a complete disregard for IHL and established LOAC.

Growing up, the holocaust was one thing I couldn't grasp. How did the populations go along with mass killings? I know now. Dehumanizing the "enemy", validating the atrocities with something the enemy did (or are). Every act of horror and ethnic cleansing is justified by media propaganda. All the while, Western governments and populations are aiding the genocide or standing idle.

"Standing idle" is wrong formulation there: The biggest arm suppliers are the US and Germany, and the US and the UK literally logistically support that all, the US also literally finances that all. Add to that all the "normalization" by the media, and the "wrongness" is complete.
